Component Stress Analysis

Component Stress Analysis

In addition to computing failure rate and MTBF, Reliability Prediction analysis may additionally include checking for Parts operating over maximum or desirable stress levels.

Overstressed Parts

Relyence Reliability Prediction automatically detects if Parts are operating above their maximum rated stress. Any Parts overstressed, such as those operating above their rated voltage, rated temperature, or rated power, will have the Overstressed checkbox marked. Also, the failure rates for those Parts will be displayed in red on the Parts Table. Additionally, the failure rate will appear in red on the Pi Factors dialog.

Checking for overstressed components is done by default during Reliability Prediction calculations.

Derating Analysis

In most cases, for product reliability reasons, it is desirable to operate components at some level below their maximum allowable limit. Operating Parts at some level below maximum in order to prolong life and improve reliability is known as derating analysis.

For details on using derating analysis in Relyence Reliability Prediciton, see the Derating Analysis topic of this guide.
