What does this release include?
This release includes the following changes to Relyence Reliability Prediction:
- Reorganized Part Types and Subtypes
- Additional features to our existing Reliability Prediction product
- New Reliability Prediction Calculation Models
- MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 Parts Count
- Telcordia Issue 4
- China’s GJB/z 299C
Why does this release matter to me?
You will want to be in-the-know about this release for a few reasons:
- Relyence Cloud-Hosted Solution will be unavailable for a short period of time while this update occurs
- Your selected Part Types and Part Subtypes for existing Relyence Reliability Prediction parts will be automatically migrated to the new organization
- The Reliability Prediction product that you enjoy today will receive some new features
- You will receive the MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 Parts Count calculation model
- You can purchase additional licenses for Telcordia Issue 4 and China’s GJB/z 299C, or exchange your existing MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 license
When will this update occur?
This update will occur on August 2nd, 2017 between 6:30 AM EST and 8:30 AM EST.
During this period, the Relyence Cloud-Hosted Solution will be unavailable.
How are Part Types and Subtypes changing?
In order to support Telcordia Issue 4, China’s GJB/z 299C, and the ability to mix calculation models in the same analysis, we have made organizational changes to Part Types and Subtypes:
- Part Type has been renamed to Category
- Part Subtype has been renamed to Subcategory
- Some parts now have a Type, which is an additional organizational level beneath Category and Subcategory
Please view this document on how specific parts are now organized.
Any existing parts in your analyses will be automatically migrated to this new organization.
What new features will be added to Relyence Reliability Prediction?
Relyence Reliability Prediction will be receiving an array of new features, such as:
- The ability to customize the default values used in the Failure Rate/MTBF calculations for particular parts and the inputs for those parts
- Early life calculations that can be applied to MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 analyses to view your predicted failure rate for each month during the first year of use
- Method calculations that can be applied to MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 analyses to be able to incorporate laboratory or field failure data with predicted failure data
- The ability to mix calculation models, for example modeling parts using both MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 and Telcordia Issue 4 in the same analysis
What is MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 Parts Count?
This is a new Reliability Prediction Calculation Model that is beneficial in the early stages of product development when details about specific parts are not yet known. This calculation model simplifies the inputs to our existing MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 implementation in order to allow you to quickly calculate Failure Rate/MTBF values that can be further refined over time.
We have developed our MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 Parts Count calculation model to work hand-in-hand with our existing MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 calculation model. Start with MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 Parts Count to calculate baseline Failure Rate/MTBF values and then switch to MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 at a later stage in your design cycle when more detailed information is known about your product. All inputs from MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 Parts Count will be transferred to MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 for you.

What is Telcordia Issue 4?
Telcordia Issue 4 is a Reliability Prediction Calculation Model that calculates the Failure Rate and MTBF for electronic components similar to MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 with some distinct advantages:
- Telcordia Issue 4 was released in March of 2016, so the calculations have been calibrated to accurately calculate based on the performance of modern electronic components
- Includes calculation models for useful parts that are not modeled in MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 such as lithium batteries, hard disk drives, AC/DC power supplies, gyroscopes, and many more
- Industry-standard early life calculations to view your predicted failure rate for each month during the first year of use
- Industry-standard method calculations to be able to incorporate laboratory or field failure data with predicted failure data
Telcordia Issue 4 is an excellent companion or replacement to MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 depending on your specific needs and requirements.
What is China’s GJB/z 299C?
China’s GJB/z 299C is a Reliability Prediction Calculation Model that calculates the Failure Rate and MTBF for electronic components similar to MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2. It includes a large number of modeled components similar to the components modeled by both MIL-HDBK-217F Notice 2 and Telcordia Issue 4.
Typically, purchasing this calculation model is only required if calculating Failure Rate and MTBF based on the China’s GJB/z 299C standard is specifically requested for a certain application.

There is no action required to receive these changes. All data migrations will be automatically handled for you.
I’m a Relyence On-Premise Solution user, so when will I be able to upgrade my existing installation?
An upgrade to your existing Relyence Reliability Prediction on-premise solution will be available on August 7th, 2017.
If you have a valid Maintenance & Upgrades package with us, you are entitled to receive this upgrade if you desire.
If you do not have a valid Maintenance & Upgrades package with us, you can purchase this upgrade.
